How Mint Books handles CIS

1
Set your CIS status
Choose registered (20%), unregistered (30%) or gross payment status in the CIS settings.
2
Invoice with the deduction shown
Mint Books works out the CIS deduction on the labour part of each invoice, so the contractor pays the right amount.
3
See the tax already taken off
Every invoice with a CIS deduction is listed by month, with the total deducted so far this tax year.
4
Use it at year end
Your CIS deductions count towards the tax you have already paid, so your Self Assessment figure is not overstated.
Mint Books is for subcontractors who have CIS taken off their pay. It does not file the monthly CIS returns that contractors send to HMRC. Keep the payment and deduction statements your contractors send you.

Questions subcontractors ask

Which plan includes CIS?

CIS is on Pro, which is £19.99 a month in total. See pricing.

Can Mint Books file my CIS return?

No. Contractors file CIS returns. As a subcontractor you do not file one; Mint Books tracks what has been deducted from you so you can claim it back through your tax return or your company’s payroll.

Does it handle the domestic reverse charge for VAT?

Yes. Turn on the reverse charge in your VAT settings.

I’m an electrician. Can it work with my certificates?

Yes. If you use iCertifi for your certificates, Mint Books can turn a finished certificate into a draft invoice. Mint Books for electricians.
