What is Mint Books?

Mint Books is invoicing, expense tracking, and accounting software built specifically for UK businesses. Whether you are a sole trader, freelancer, electrician, limited company, or partnership, Mint Books handles everything from your first invoice to filing VAT returns with HMRC.

Mint Books is available at invoice.icertifi.co.uk and works on any device with a web browser – desktop, tablet, or phone.

Creating Your Account

Setting up takes less than a minute:

1Visit invoice.icertifi.co.uk
2Click Sign Up
3Enter your email address and create a password (or continue with Google)
4Verify your email address
5Enter your business name – this creates your organisation

Your First 5 Minutes

When you first sign in, a Getting Started Checklist appears on your Dashboard. Follow these steps to get set up:

Set up your business details – Go to Settings and fill in your business name, address, and contact details. This information appears on every invoice you send.
Add your bank details – Your sort code and account number appear on invoices so clients know where to pay you.
Create your first client – Add someone you do work for. You just need their name and email to get started.
Send your first invoice – Pick the client, describe what you did, add the amount, and hit Send.
Record your first expense – Track a business purchase (tools, materials, fuel) – this makes your tax return easier at the end of the year.
Invite your accountant (optional) – Give them read-only access to your books with no passwords needed.

The checklist tracks your progress with a progress bar. Once you have completed all the steps, you can dismiss it.

Choosing Your Business Type

Mint Books supports four UK business types. The app adapts based on your choice, showing or hiding relevant features. You can change your business type later in Settings.

👤 Sole Trader

Self-employed individuals. Includes Self Assessment support, personal tax calculations, and simplified expenses.

🏢 Limited Company

Corporation tax estimation, director loan tracking, statutory accounts, and employee management.

🤝 Partnership

Partner records, profit sharing percentages, salary allowances, capital contributions, and individual NINO/UTR tracking.

💼 LLP

Same as Partnership with limited liability structure.

Simple Mode vs Advanced Mode

Mint Books has two modes so you only see what you need:

Simple Mode

Shows only the essentials – Dashboard, Invoices, Clients, Items and Services, Expenses, Accountant Access, and Settings. Perfect if you just want basic invoicing.

Advanced Mode

Shows everything – Quotes, Recurring Invoices, Purchase Orders, Payments, Income, Mileage, VAT, Self Assessment, CIS, Reports, Assets, Bookkeeping, Projects, Time Tracking, Tags, Automations, Webhooks, and Team management.

Tip: Switch between modes using the toggle at the bottom of the sidebar. Start in Simple Mode and switch to Advanced when you are ready.

The Dashboard

The Dashboard is your home screen and financial command centre. What you see depends on your mode:

Simple Mode shows a welcome message, the Getting Started checklist (until dismissed), your subscription status, notifications, a basic financial summary, and quick action buttons.

Advanced Mode adds revenue and profit charts, a cash flow forecast, an invoice ageing chart showing how long invoices are overdue, a tax liability summary, upcoming tax deadlines, and a VAT threshold progress bar showing how close you are to the 90,000 pound registration limit.
